    What makes our cookies functional

    About Our Ingredients

What is a Fully Functional Cookie?

If you were asked to think of one or two snacks that have the potential to be good for you, odds are cookies wouldn’t cross your mind. But at The Cookie Department, we have made the impossible possible. Our incredible cookies are soft-baked, chewy, and loaded with beneficial ingredients, and they’re delicious as well.

We have created the first fully functional cookie. But what does the term “fully functional” mean regarding cookies? It actually boils down to the ingredients we use in our recipes. We use functional ingredients that are known for their unique health-promoting properties. Here is a list of some of the ingredients featured in our cookies.

    Fair Trade Coffee Beans

At The Cookie Department, we are all about using ingredients that are good for the body and good for the planet. This is why we use only fair-trade coffee beans in our recipes. Fair trade coffee supports environmental sustainability and the local communities and farmers that harvest the beans. It also tastes better and is better for your health. This coffee is grown slowly in rich, nutrient-dense soil and without fertilizers or pesticides. The nutrients in the soil are absorbed by the beans and forwarded to you.

    rBST-Free Whey Protein

Our cookies are made with rBST-Free Whey Protein. This classification means that the whey protein is grown organically, using ethically treated cow’s milk sources. The milk used in our recipes comes from cows that have not been injected with bovine somatotropin, so you never have to worry about involuntarily ingesting artificial growth hormones with our cookies.

    Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper contains an ingredient called capsaicin, which is not only responsible for the pepper’s heat, but also its medicinal properties. Cayenne pepper provides plenty of health benefits. It has been shown to accelerate the metabolism, reduce hunger, lower blood pressure, aid in digestion, relieve pain, reduce cancer risks, improve psoriasis, and more.

    Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes help keep our cookies moist, but that’s not the only reason we include them in our recipes. They are also high in fiber and packed with vitamins and minerals. For example, sweet potatoes are naturally high in Vitamin A, which is an important vitamin for protecting against lung cancer. They’re also high in antioxidants that can improve eye health and have been shown to help manage type 2 diabetes.

    Oats

Oats make our cookies super-satisfying because they are an excellent source of fiber and protein, but besides that, they also bring a lot of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to the table. Oats are among the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat. They can help you lower your cholesterol, reduce your blood sugar levels, and improve the growth of good bacteria in your gut.

    Maca Root

Maca root is a Peruvian plant that has been used for thousands of years by the Peruvians for its ability to boost energy and endurance. Maca is also high in flavonoids, which have been known to help improve anxiety and depression. According to multiple studies, Maca root has even been shown to help reduce blood pressure, fight free radicals, improve skin health, reduce menopause symptoms, improve cognition, reduce erectile dysfunction, and improve fertility and libido.

    Dates

Dates are nature’s sweetener. But in addition to their sweetness, they are also high in fiber and disease-fighting antioxidants and they contain minerals that benefit the body’s skeletal system. Dates are also known to be good for the brain, help with blood sugar management, and help ease late-term labor in pregnant women.

    High Oleic Sunflower Oil

High oleic sunflower oil is pressed from sunflowers that have been specifically bred to be high in monounsaturated fat. This is the type of fat found in olives and avocados, so it is a functional fat that promotes good brain health and memory recall. High oleic sunflower oil has also been shown to help support healthy blood cholesterol, blood sugar, and insulin levels.
