Akiva Resnikoff worked in a variety of regular jobs in seriously un-regular Berkeley, California until one afternoon, during a dull, regular-company meeting, he hit on the original idea of the 'functional' treat while snacking on cookies and coffee. That day, the first purposeful cookie (and a fun, new, un-regular company) was born: the AWAKEN BAKED COOKIE and THE COOKIE DEPARTMENT.
There were risks, to be sure, but Akiva was finally ready to give it all up (the money, the prestige, and the attention of all the regular job ladies) and in late 2009 he officially launched THE COOKIE DEPARTMENT, where he is now COO.
Pam Marcus began her career as a pediatric physical therapist and she saw a need for healthy, environmentally friendly products for families. Her interest in health and all things wonderful lead her to co-found and become CEO of THE COOKIE DEPARTMENT after meeting Akiva and discovering a shared interest in all things Cookie.
Now THE COOKIE DEPARTMENT, with its inventive assortment of delicious and functional cookies, is the single-minded obsession of both Akiva and Pam's two great minds. They take great pride in running their company well, making amazing cookies, treating customers with respect, conducting endless meetings, looking very serious and carrying clipboards.
